At the 1982 FIFA World Cup finals in Spain he famously tracked Argentina's Diego Maradona into anonymity in their second-round match. He was originally a full-back when Juventus FC signed him from Varese in 1973 but soon switched to central defence and was a key figure in Italy's 1982 World Cup win. With Juventus he won all three major European club competitions, six league titles and two Italian Cups as well as 71 caps between 1975 and 1984. He now oversees the development of the next generation of Italian internationals as coach of the Under-21 squad.
